This year we are Buggin’ Out!
Each day you can join us for a different insect-themed program (10am), followed by a Naturalist-guided hike (11am), and catch a craft afterward (10am-1pm). Each day will have it’s own theme!
Parent or guardian required. FREE. Perfect for Elementary age students!
MONDAY
Plentiful Pollinators
Come explore the amazing abilities of pollinators as we take a closer look at bees and butterflies. You will have an opportunity to make your own pollinator garden with a seed ball and create a bee house that you can use in your own backyard. Then, join us as we hike around GPNC as we explore plants that are important to pollinators. You’ll *bee* amazed at how many ways the butterflies and bees help us!
TUESDAY
Camouflage & Mimicry
Look closely or you might miss them… let’s look at bugs that blend in or that look like something else as you practice being a bug detective. You will have the opportunity to hide your own cool critters in our exhibit hall, as well as try your hand at drawing the other half of a cool bug. Then as a great bug explorer, we will go on a bug hike through the woods.
WEDNESDAY
Bugs of the Bark
Take a look and you will see all the bugs that live on a tree. We will take natural supplies and make your own bug, as well as look at bugs that you can eat. Educational purposes only (No bugs will be eaten on site).
THURSDAY
Life under Logs
Very carefully pick up a log and take a peek at all the cool critters living underneath. Go ahead and get dirty as well as dig in the dirt to find cool bugs. Let’s learn about the bugs that live in the darkness, and create some wonderful bug mobiles.
FRIDAY
Cool Creek Critters
Let’s get muddy and learn all about the cool critters that live in the water as we explore the pond for invertabrates. We will learn about water sampling and make your own underwater magnifying glass.
