Outdoor Mural Project | Artist Delilah Reed
Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11AM CDT
- Where: Great Plains Nature Center | Behind-the-Scenes Classroom
- Cost: Free!
About the Project:
This outdoor mural project will have a native Kansas wildlife theme and colorful palette to serve as a visual anchor and photo opportunity. It will create a unique sense of place for visitors and serve as a reminder of the value of living wildlife at the Great Plains Nature Center as they explore our nature trails. Visual art can inspire an appreciation of wildlife and the natural environment in Wichita, KS. For centuries, artists have been inspired by the natural world and have expressed this through a wide variety of mediums. We believe that celebrating native wildlife builds a stronger sense of pride for residents of the Great Plains and may inspire more visitors to develop sound environmental stewardship practices while visiting the park and throughout their daily lives.
Meet Delilah Reed:
Delilah Reed has completed multiple outdoor murals in the City of Wichita, KS and is a resident of Kansas. Artist Statement: “My primary medium is acrylic paints, but I also love playing with watercolors, chalk, paint, and digital art. What I’m known for in Wichita are my murals along Douglas that have bright, bold color schemes and buggy influences. When expressing myself creatively I tend to focus on themes of nature, nostalgia, and yummy yum yum color palettes that warm my belly. I want to create art that connects with others, be it through a nostalgic memory or by sparking a new emotion or idea in their mind. With my art I have and most likely will always tend more towards that which is “child-like”, carefree, and whimsical. Why draw bugs and nature? I draw things that I am delighted and fascinated by. When I see a cute little bug that I have never seen before my heart flutters and I want to learn more about it!”
