Summer Programs

Summer experiences for your group!

Come to the GPNC for a field trip or let us bring nature to you through an outreach program! The Great Plains Nature Center is accepting program requests this summer in June and July. The start time for your field trips can be scheduled for any time within the window of 9:00am to 11:30am on your desired date. Outreach programs can be between 9 am-4 pm.

Please select a program date at least a month from the date you submit your request to allow staff to prepare for your visit.

Summer Field Trips

Consist of a hour long naturalist-guided excursion into Chisholm Creek Park, complete with a nature hike and activity! Pre-K groups will be with a naturalist for approximately 30 minutes; this program will consist of a story and live animal. Note: Encourage your students to dress appropriately for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and sunscreen!

Field Trip Options:

  • Water- Learn about aquatic ecosystems and investigate the bugs that call water home!
  • Earth- What helps fungus, plants, and animals thrive? Dirt! Learn about soil, underground worlds, and microhabitats.
  • Air- Fly into the world of winged fauna! Look and learn about the birds and bugs that take to the skies.

Outreach Programs

Consist of a 30-minute animal program and can be provided to schools, recreation centers, retirement homes, libraries, and other community groups.  We can travel anywhere within 30 minutes away from the nature center.

Cancellations and Policies

We reserve the right to turn away unscheduled groups if our building capacity is already full. Rain or shine, plan to be outside.
